WESTERN SCREECH-OWL AND LANDSLIDE: This superb night soundscape was recorded along the Rio Grande River near Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park. Features the repeated calls of a Western Screech-owl and a canyon landslide about halfway through. Listen also for the hoots of Great-Horned Owls and occasional chuckles of a Rio Grande Leopard Frog. 8:40pm, 14 March, 2017.
IN MY OPINION, this is one of my finest soundscapes. I love the mixture ... the close screech-owl trills set against the distant hoots of the great-horned owl, with the gentle gurgle of the Rio Grande River filling in the spaces ... a wonderfully relaxing mix that seems to capture the essence of this utterly fantastic place. I plan return later in the spring to gather additional soundscape impressions, including one (or more) from within the canyon itself.
