DAWN CHORUS AT LACASSINE POOL: Dawn chorus at a small, marshy pool surrounded by trees. 27 February 2017. Recorded at the beginning of the Loop Drive in Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge near Lake Arthur in southwestern Louisiana.
ALTHOUGH PLAGUED by windy weather during my late February visit to the Louisiana coastal marshes, I managed to capture an energetic dawn chorus during a fairly calm morning in Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge. Recorded at a small, marshy pool surrounded by trees (see habitat pic below). Species heard include Common Moorhen, Red-winged Blackbird, Mourning Dove, Common Grackle, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Cricket Frog, Cricket trills, and Northern Cardinal.
